Springtime wedding in upstate New York
Jenny and Gary decided to marry on a perfect spring day at my favorite wedding venue of all time, Handsome Hollow. A hideaway in the picturesque Catskills in Upstate New York, Handsome Hollow is an idyllic getaway for Manhattanites or a dream destination wedding venue for a couple looking to wed in Dreamland.
Jenny and Gary live in Manhattan and found me through the vendor list at Handsome Hollow. We scheduled a FaceTime session to get to know each other and talk-shop. We laughed and joked about how silly weddings can be with the stress and chaos of all the moving parts. When we ended the conversation I felt like I had just made a couple of new friends.
Personalizing their wedding with honest details that spoke to their backgrounds and who they are was an important component of their day. They donned the property in bright red Chinese lanterns, married in front of a bold red Chinese Character and celebrated their moments-old nuptials with a traditional breaking of the glass. The delectable catering, provided by Main Course Catering, provided an eclectic mix of fare hinting to their unique backgrounds. But the most important personal note to the evening was their INCREDIBLE band, Li’Nards Many Moods. A funk band out of NYC performed at their first-ever wedding and brought down the house. I can honestly tell you that this was the best music I’ve ever had the opportunity to experience at a wedding. The music was so good I stayed late, playing with some double-exposure imagery and dancing with my videographer friend from Paperbird Weddings.
